No, but they should be obligated to themselves to stay safe, or else they can't play or get paid.
Staying safe for the fans' sake would be very heartening, but honestly, that's not what they are thinking about when they hop on the motorcycle.
Different activities should be specified in contracts, rather than prohibiting "potentially dangerous activities" and other vague terms.

Unfortunately, they are not obligated to their fans. However, at the amount of money they receive, they ARE obligated to their teams, and even more so to their teammates.
The amount of physical strain, money spent, etc. that the players and teams have to sacrifice to win, you would think a player would be smart enough to recognize these things.
The majority of these players are however in their twenties. These athletes have been pampered and allowed to do most anything they want. And now that they have money, the majority don't know how to react or how to spend wisely.
The main problem is the player's actions are not performed in a vacuum. Do you think Kellen Winslow II's teammates aren't pissed at him for his motorcycle accident a few years back? I'm sure there were vets on that team that were hoping he would make a difference and help get them to the playoffs, but because of his selfishness and stupidity, he hasn't played the last two years.
Now the Steelers have their franchise quarterback with a broken jaw. Who knows how long it will take before he is medically cleared to play. Ben Roethlisberger will come back sometime during the season, but who knows, it may already be too late in the season for Pittsburgh.

NO. They are obligated to follow their contract which says they can't take unneccassary risks off the field. That eliminates skydiving but not riding a motorcycle. So put in the contract that they can't ride them like was done with Kellen Winslow Jr. As to my opinion that they shouldn't I don't see any reason to say they should do anything other then follow the contract. Don't start this that we play them. All that crap doesn't matter to me. I am allowed to take stupid risks. As is everyone. Yeah I'm not KNOWN to everyone but I do provide an important serivce with my job.

well, as a die hard football fan i'd have to say yes definitely... especially being a STEELER fan it's really serious(football)it's like a part of me when that sh*t happened to ben my thoughts were of his health NOT the season but now that i know he's ok i am so pissed at him for being so reckless...when we didn't make it to the superbowl year before last i prolly cried more than anyone on the team it's in my blood i wish i could let you feel what i mean... they should know that. the fans (especially Pittsburgh's) are such a huge part of the game without them then what?? ya know?? there is not only a responsibility to the fans...also, the TEAM. they count on you no matter what position you play but especially QB those are your boys c'mon!! not to mention all the money tied up in those contracts and endorsements commercials...ben was supposed to do a campbells chunky soup comical with his mother the wednesday after he wrecked and they had to recast. plus if you have everything in the world...money, support of your family and millions of people you don't even know...why in hell would you NOT stop to think twice about being reckless with your life?? it just doesn't make any sense to me. sorry, i'm a bit buzzed and i like this question and feel very strongly about it so i mighta rambled a little!*

Sports figures aren't obligated to fans for anything.
They are human like you and I and capable of grave errors.
Because you patronize what they get paid well to do has very little impact on how they lead their personal life.

They are obligated to their fans and their teams, because they are paid millions of dollars, but injured they are worth nothing.

It has to be in their contract. They should be able to do anything they want as long as they are not breaking contract rules.
