check your linkage and fluid level. very common for these transmissions to shoot craps though.

Check your tranny fluid you do that by leaving the car running and in park if just started it leval should be at cold if it has been running it should be on hot if it is low add some, second it is a Ford what do you want a Chevy?

Ever have the transmission serviced..... transmissions are highly over looked.......for a transmission to last.....it ought to be serviced every 30,000 s-miles....it may be too late for yours..Pull the stick out an check it for color. If it is dark-dirty-brown looking. and / or has a burnt smell about it....its over due for service...or even too too late.....Another thing, since the radiator cools the trans fluid , if the radiator has been neglected it allow the trans fluid to overheat which kills the transmission..

Check your transmission fluid. If it isn't there or smells burnt, you have a transmission problem. Now you know why FORD stands for Found On Road, Dead.

You need a transmission overhaul. It is normally the reverse gear that fails first on an Auto box

first thing i would check is the shifting linkage to see if its off or needs adjusted.
