Not All Softballs are harder.
It's the new material they're made from and the compression of the center core.
Softballs are measured by core rating and compression.
Core are rated from 40 core to 50 core
compression is rated 300 compression(restricted flite) to 525 compression (Hot and long flite).
Baseballs are the same way you have live core and dead core.
When see a lot of Home Runs hit in a season they're using a live core. When the Home Runs are lower they're using a dead core.
In the Hone Runs Derby they have during the All Star Game. Those balls are hot, along with their bats.
Same way when you get to batting practice and see the guys hit a lot of Home Runs those balls are hot to put a show on for the fans.
In Softball you have different associations ASA,NSA. ISP, USSSA,Super League(The big boys of softball).
The bats have hotter too. Also the prices reaching up to and a past $400.00 per bat.
All the different materials these softball bats are made of is crazy.
It has taken the game to a crazy level(and somewhat dangerous for the players the way the ball comes off the bats.
It has taken the fun out of the game when there were wooden bats and the first Alumiunm bats came out. After 1986 the bat market got crazy.
Same way with the hotter softballs . Red Dot, Steele. Rocket Ball. Now the balls are hotter and some are getting hotter to match the bats. Then other ways they make the balls hotter(in the microwave & freezing(or cooling what some call it)the softballs). Anything to get that edge rather than using their abilities.
I've seen guys weighing 135 pounds hitting the balls 350' with no trouble with the bats and balls out there.
If you need anyother information you can go to different softball websites and check out the band bats and balls(because how hot they are).

I hope this help and answered your question.

I would think so, but I guess its not. Most baseball players think it is hard to tell what type of ball a pitcher will throw. I play softball, so after watching the pitcher it can be very predictable. I was once a pitcher so I know that pitcher throws a different pitch all the time and they are at different speeds. Although in softball the ball is bigger, that has nothing to do with it, its all about technique and practice of your swing so you actually make contact with the ball. In baseball the ball is pitched farther back and really fast, where as in softball in is closer, but very fast too (a little slower). So, you need the same reaction time for both. I truly think it is all in their mind and their technique and thats why they can't hit the ball. I hope this helps and makes sense! [[ I play softball and its very easy for me to hit the ball, I can't hit a baseball though]]

I agree to the guy with 101mph at the neck. a softball my appear harder on the outside and even feel. but thats because a baseballs surface area is made of leather, the inside is really just a bunch of string and then it has a core. but the string is wound up so tightly. i got a line drive off my eye pitching once, and it broke 3 bones, i also got hit in the face playin a scrub softball game, and all i got was a busted lip, no broken bones. softballs cant travel nearly as fast as a baseball can.

Softball is doesn't get as much distance... soft ball is easier to hit... baseballs get good distance.. harder to hit... although I hit baseballs a lot easier than softballs.

How do you figure? The core of a softball may be harder than a hard ball, but its outward feel is much softer. A softball cant "fly" as far as a hard ball for the simple fact that it is softer and absorbs the impact that the bat makes when it hits.
Please provide proof of what you call fact.
