I accidently dripped candle wax on one of my favorite sweaters a year ago and I have not washed it since for fear that it will get worse. Is there any way I can remove the wax?? I can't peel it off. My sweater is made of 88 % acrylic, 10 % nylon and 2 % spandex. PLease let me know of any products or procedures that can help remove the candle wax, thank you!

Use an iron on the nylon setting which is low so it won't melt the material, but a paper towel between the iron and the sweater. Press and rotate the iron, moving the paper towel as the wax melts and wicks into the paper. Turn the garment inside out and repeat the process, if the wax went all the way through.

Removing Candle Wax From Cloth

Allow the wax to harden - you can speed this up by putting the item into the fridge or freezer. The majority of the wax should be easy to break off. To remove any remaining wax, put the affected part of the cloth between two sheets of brown paper or pieces of clean absorbent material. Using a warm (not hot) iron gently move over material, replacing paper or material when necessary, continuing the process until wax is removed. Some of the stain may remain, this can be treated with a dry cleaning solvent. Then give the item the hottest wash the material will take.

I would suggest putting your sweater in the freezer - get the wax good and hard then remove what wax you can. After that I would then attempt using my blow dryer on hot.... Letting the remaining wax drip off onto a paper towel. And for anything remaining - I would put liquid detergent on the spot and gently rub in. Let sit for a hour and then attempt to wash in the appropriate cycle for your sweater.
Good Luck

Put the sweater in the freezer for an hour or so. The wax will freeze and then chip off all in one piece. Hope this helps.

place an old hand towel over it and iron, the towel will absorb the wax, repeat the procedure with a clean part of the towel till the wax is gone. be careful not to use too high of a heat setting. wash out any residue that remains.

You may be able to place a thin towel or paper towel over the spot and iron over it with a cool iron. This will cause the wax to melt and adhere to the towel instead of your sweater. Good luck.

You could try putting paper towel on both inside & outside of sweater, then heat with steam iron on low setting until wax melts & paper towels absorb.

Have heard of the warm iron method and I plan on trying to use that myself. The freezer didn't work for me, but it is because the wax went clear through the knit.
