Both, either. I don't like "fake" color, if that is what you are thinking. My order of preference would be:
1. Black (my wife has black hair)
2. Brunette (a close second)
I think it is a matter of personal preference. But you should do an opinion poll on what color hair the guy's mom has, and what color hair his gf has. I bet the percentage is pretty high that they match! ps: my mom's hair was also black - she is Italian.

both? it really depends on the girl, sometimes black is nice because its dark and mysterious, but the black would have to be more than one shade, you wouldnt want your hair to look dull, you want to give highlights(not bright ones) and layers to it, Brown is also another that is likeable but there are so many shades, dark brown to really light, layering the colors is a good way or just getting highlights of a lighter brown in dark brown is a way to make your hair look more natural. Hair itself is rarely mono-chromatic naturally. so when someone dyes their hair one color only, you can tell its fake. Also i like blondes and red heads, try to find which color works best for you if you are concidering changing your natural hair color. Make sure u dont use long-lasting dyes though in case you really dont like the color. Also different hair styles can make certain colors look better. Suggestion: find a good stylist who wont make you look bad lol.

I like black, red or blonde hair. But blue, pink, or green are more interesting. When my haircolor changes my attitude does as well. I don't know the psychological reasons for this though. To answer your question- black.

black hair, definitly, but red is nice aswell. But personaly the crazy colors are the coolest for me, but you have to kill your hair to get it that way.
