Rhetorically, the need for speed, money, convenience and the willingness of people to buy just about anything whether they need it or not.

Did you see the 2006 consumer electronics show on HGTV?

There are a lot of useful items on the market but ten times more pure scifi useless clutter as well. Like the cell phone attachment that you tuck under your headrest in your car. It's a L shaped device with the microphone on one end and the speak on the other to give you hands free in the car. Totally ridiculous looking not to mention a safety hazard if you get rear ended and it goes flying. I don't guess they thought of that!
