Ok, it hurts slightly in certain areas when the needle first enters your body.
It hurt the most in the shin area and the foot area. It doesn't hurt at all in the forehead, ears, arms. I've never had any needles in my back though.

Sometimes, when the acupuncturist hits certain spots on your body's "meridians" you can feel a surge of energy between the two needles.
Made me a believer of chi. Also, if the needle is placed in a muscle, it sometimes contracts and feels strange - it doesn't hurt, but it feels really weird.

As far as effectiveness, it worked for me. Tremendously reduced my migraines and tension headaches, and also helped with insomnia. Stick with it for at least 4-6 treatments, then get a maintainance treatment at an interval that your doctor suggests.

Good luck.

I have a problem with migraine headaches. I prefer the acupuncture over the shots the ER likes to give. Beta blockers didn't work. Couldn't find any food or environmental triggers. I get auras before the killer headaches. If I can get to the acupuncturist then, I can avoid the headache!

i had accupunture for my back problem and I was terrified . But it was almost painless. Ifdone right you feel almost nothing. A couple of points might hurt but it will feel like you poked your finger with a sewing needle and thats not so bad. Just make sure that they are disposable needles and relax. Be sure to tell your accupunturist if it hurts because then it might be the wrong spot and they will adjust the area. Don't worry its not so bad.
