Can you move your toes and move you whole foot?
If the answer is yes, it's a sprain.
If you can't, it's broken.

wow, thats a difficult one to answer without seing the ankle....
swelling, a lot of pain, disability to walk or move it and loss of sensitivity = could be broken.
a sprain can hurt more, but does not have to... i know it sounds weired.
best thing to do is go and see a doc and get an mri taken.
if its broke and does not get fixed you could be troubled for the rest of your life with a bad ankle.
so youll better go and see your doctor.
good luck

if there is a break ....there should be SEVERE swelling and redness to the area..that would be the bone in the process of healing itself...otherwise...the sprain would cause slight to moderate swelling and can be alleviated by propping the foot up and cold compress....you would cry louder if it was broken lol

Without seeing the injury and knowing the specifics, I would have to say go to your doc and get an x-ray. If it is broken and it heals improperly on it's own, it will come back to haunt you in some way or another. Be safe, get checked out.
