Because it's actually easier than just flushing our money down the toilet, no handle to push.

It's a question of national will. We are the United States of America, and we are in this thing together for the general welfare and common good. New Orleans is a national and historical treasure that deserves preserving to the best of our ability. If the Netherlands and Italy's Venice can keep out the sea with floodwalls, we should be able to do the same for one of our cities. With its unique blend of French, Creole and Southern influences, not to mention its rich jazz heritage, New Orleans is like no other place in the country, or perhaps the world. It would be a shame to abandon it prematurely when we could have done something to save it.

Well, I don't know about the global warming. But I do know that New Orleans is sinking faster than the engineers expected. That sinking will probably cause more damage than rising sea levels (if they are in fact rising that much to begin with).

well it is true that we shouldn't rebuild new orleans or atleast move it a coule miles up north the missisippi, but the government is obligated to protect it's citizens and the only way the government can do it is with our taxes but you have to realize that the gov. puts money out for everyone every single person is benefitted by the gov. and some people need more assistance then others be glad that you need less

Actually, they shouldn't. The government has certain functions that are spelled out in the Constitution. But none of them include building levees for individual cities. That is a state/local issue. The federal government actually has no right to do so.

If the Army Corps of Engineers had spent your tax dollars to build those levees PROPERLY in the first place, they wouldn't be having to rebuild them now.
