Infants with baby acne typically get whiteheads, blackheads, and pustules on their nose, scalp, cheeks and forehead. There skin may also appear red and rough.

Although no treatment is usually required, an article in the Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics does state that 'if desired, the lesions can be treated effectively with topical tretinoin and/or benzoyl peroxide.' Since they do so often go away without any treatment, you should talk to your Pediatrician before trying something like benzoyl peroxide or Retin A (a topical tretinion medication).

Keep in mind that baby acne may not go away on its own for several months and sometimes not until a baby is six months old.

Also keep in mind that common things that parents do, like vigorous washing and scrubbing and using moisturizers and other creams and lotions, can make baby acne worse. Since it looks worse than it makes your baby feel, it is usually best to just leave it alone and understand that it will eventually go away.

Gentle cleansing with water alone, or a mild soap, is usually the best 'treatment' until your baby's acne goes away.

It is completely normal for babies to get "baby acne." Their skin is just adjusting to being skin outside the womb. My kids acne got worse before it got better. They both peaked out on the acne at about three to four months old. Hang in there if the acne is still going strong. There is usually no correlation to what their skin will actually be like once they are past the baby acne.

Perfectly normal, as the child ages the pores on the skin will open and the acne will go away

However if it lasts for more than a month, take the child to the doc, it may be an allergic reaction to formula or your milk, the foods you eat affect your milk.

yes it is normal....I had a son 5 months ago and he got it as well as both of my other children. It varies from one child to another, but most get it. Just make sure to keep their face clean with plain water. Don't use lotions or oils. It will go away on its own, however my son's lasted more like 4 weeks instead of 2 as stated earlier.

Newborns get it shortly after birth when the extra hormones from pregnancy leave the body. Older babies get it for the same reason we do, because of oily skin. A baby has a hard time dealing with the extra oil (still usually from being in the womb.)

Yes, it is normal. Yes, it goes away. Eventually. My mother-in-law gave me a home remedy to make it go away faster. Wipe his/her face with one of his/her wet diapers. Just the wet ones from his/her urine. Yes, I thought it was a crazy idea! But, i tried it and it went away in TWO DAYS!. I won't hurt him/her. Infact, my babies urine didn't have a smell at all because I breastfed. Just try it and keep us updated.
