With so many people dying as a result of The Second Amendment, shouldn't we just do away with it all together?

there's good logic. instead of banning guns let's ban idiots. it's always a good idea to just scrap a part of the constitution because someone got angry and abused their right to bare arms. let's suspend that freedom of speech amendment because people say stupid things and hurt other peoples feelings. i'm abusing alcohal right now should we ban beer ? the answer is never to suspend the rights of the law abiding but to punish those who violate the law. no guns should not be banned in America i'm with ted nugent on this one.

No! We shouldn't have a ban on guns. It's our second amendment right! Will the cops, and military get to keep them if there is a ban on guns? If that answer is 'yes', then Ha! Hell no on that! What we need to do is put any prospective gun owner through a rigorous bunch of exams and background checks. Delve super deep into the person's life. Leave no stone unturned to find out all their thoughts, gripes, complaints, pet peeves, or any anger issues. We give them a 1000 question test and re-word some of the questions to see if they answer basically the same question different ways. Then, and only then, will we be able to be pretty dang sure that the prospective gun owners are responsible and intelligent enough to have them or not. We also should do the same with the current gun owners. We need to tell the nutjobs like Lanza, Roberts, Holmes, Loughner, etc "Hell no you can't have a gun. You're too f'd up in the head." We then send them kicking and screaming into the nearest nut house.

OK, time for a little research: In 1781 when this amendment was first proposed, guns were a single action, and for all the non gun fanatics out there=one shot per minute if fast. Okay, with that out, they werent the most accurate things in the world(unlike todays modern sniper rifles that are available to the paying) and they didnt go that far(like the M82 .50 cal sniper rifle that can kill up to a mile and a half away, with the bullets actually going unaccurately much further, and that is available to those paying 7000 dollars). So, in our founding fathers infinite wisdom, they didnt really mind having one for protection, because it was hard to kill a person with it unless they were right next to you(also remember back then, the British and Native Americans were a present danger). So today, with automatic weapons that can empty a 30 round clip in 2-3 seconds and rifles that are extremely accurate, should we control guns? Absolutly! Have you ever seen a hunter with a 50 caliber rifle? No. Have you ever had to defend yourself from a British person with an AK-47? No. Have you ever had to fight off a bear with an Uzi? No. So think long and hard before saying no controls whatsoever. That is stupid. Now, weapons that are purely for hunting or defense(a shotgun, or hunting pistols/rifles), but other pistol sales should be limited(its a lot harder to walk in a bank or store with a shotgun in your hands without getting killed first). Sniper rifles-leave those to the military and professional marksmen that actually have a use for them(like tournaments). So to all you people out there whow say absolutely NO gun controls(NRA comes to mind), think long and hard about what I put up here just now.

Guns, whether or not they need to be, can't be banned. Think about it. Who would obey? Criminals already don't follow laws, why should they give up the advantage? If a gun ban passed, society as a whole would fall prey to criminal minds. The question then isn't should they be banned, but can they safely be banned, and we pretty much all know the answer. No, guns cannot be banned in America.

More people die from car accidents then guns in America. Let's ban cars. In 2002, there was 16,204 homicides. That includes firearms and other objects. Guns are just one of many tools that can be used to kill. "According to preliminary statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 43,200 people were killed on the nation's highways in 2005." That is more than double the homicide rate, almost triple. So with your thinking, lets ban cars to save lives. A firearm is a tool, just as a car is a tool. So to answer your question, NO.

Hitler believed in Gun Control, he also crammed his opponents into Death Camps.

The Liberals would do the same if Guns were banned in America.

Gun Bans leave ya at the mercy of Criminals and the Govt.

Criminals are gonna get Guns no matter what, Mexico has more Restrictive Gun laws than America but a lot of our Illegal Guns come out of Mexico.

If you favor banning Guns then you favor getting crammed into a oncentration Camp.

Not unless you are in the police force/military etc, or have a licence and permit to hunt. (Those Living in rural/remote regions also should be eligible to possess a licenced gun).
You should have a valid reason/purpose for possessing firearms - other than quoting the Second Amendment.
What does a typical American living in suburbia need a gun for??
Makes me question, do kids know how to fight the old fashioned way anymore? No wonder Americans are reluctant to give up their guns, Not so tough without them!!!!!!!

People are able to protect themselves as a result of that amendment -- people do not die as a result of an amendment.
Amendments don't kill people, people kill people.

No, guns should not be banned in America.

Americans have the right to bear arms. Of course, that should not include ALL kinds of guns. This amendment was made before all of these DANGEROUS newer guns were invented! Some guns don't need to end up at home. People are dangerous - NOT guns.

Outlaw guns and then only the outlaws will have guns.

People have been killing each other long before there were guns. To assume that if you outlaw guns you'll lower crime rates is simplistic and foolish.

If you really want to reduce crime and violence require everybody to carry a gun. Check out the statics. Areas with higher gun ownership have drastically reduced crime rates.

Get to the heart of the violence, the lack of morals and proper upbringing in our society.

So to answer your question, NO! Our founding fathers knew that the right to keep and bear arms would prevent the government from ever becoming too oppressive and it is a significant deterrent to any foreign power considering invading this country.

"You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hand."

Absolutely not the second amendment has been trampled on enough! Frankly I think ever American should be armed with an AK 47 and I think People would think twice before they decided to break and enter or raper or kill like that man did that little girl they have been searching for days for.
