I am the only person in my family who likes to wear makeup. I have no clue what I'm doing! Sometimes I put too much on (like in my picture). I've tried asking other people, but the answer I seem to get is "You complextion is beautiful. You don't need any." I want to add color to my face. What do you think would work for me?

I wear the basics everyday. Thin eyeliner (upper lid and undereye), clear lip gloss, volumizing mascara, a tiny bit of blush, and concealer on those small imperfections I have. You don't need a lot. But if you are going on a special occasian, then go ahead and throw alittle eyeshadow on!

I can't see your little pic very well but I can tell you what I do. I apply cover up under my eyes and other places I might need it, then I use a foundation powder. This is better than a foundation liquid because it blends evenly and isn't as heavy. If you want to add color I would suggest using a light blush on your cheeks (make sure you don't apply too much). Also, you don't need a lot of color on your lids like in your pic to enhance your eyes. Just use a base color on the lower part of the lid and a lighter color (like white) on the top. You can always use liner as well but not a thick line of it. Or if you want your face to be tanner I think they make some lotion for your face you can use =) Hope this helps!

Less is always more. If you think you've put on too much then you probably have.

Simple tips: Use an eye shadow opposite from your eye color (ex: brown eyes use blues or violets. blue eyes: use browns, pinks or neutrals)
Also keep your blush and lip color in the same color family. (ex: don't wear red lipstick with a brown hued blush)
You can never go wrong with a tinted moisterizer rather than cakey foundation and powder.
If you are older than 21 don't use glittery stuff, the key is to glow not look like a disco ball. Chose something with a shimmer rather than glitter.

I think the lipstick color looks good but the eyeshadow has got to go!! Is that blue??? UGH! Go for a more natural looking color- taupe, brown, gray, anything but the 80's blue and purple. As for blush, just make sure it blends with your natural skin tone. Like a peachy color- don't get anything too pinky or purpley. Good luck. Make-up is fun. It is one of the great things about being a girl. You may also want to check out a makeup counter at a department store- they can help you w/the colors also.

Less is more, a nice clean concealer will help even out tone. You seem to have a darker tone so you can go with a deep ruby blush. Just make it very light and remember to sweep the brush up along your cheek bones. A little mascara and youre good to go. It takes no time at all and the difference is amazing! I heard that peach tones for eyeshadow go well with your complexion. Have fun and try different colors out. A good tip is either play up your lips or your eyes. So no intense eyeshadow with an amazing red lipstick.

Hope this helps!

PS. when youre done go out in the sun with a mirror. Natural light tells the best story.

The old adage "less is more" applies to make-up as it does to a lot of other things. If you want to wear make-up but have a tendency to use too much, try Bare Essentials. It's totally natural, makes you look natural and it's hard to screw-up. They do have eye shadows with color and lipsticks with color, etc.. but the basic coverage is very sheer and has great coverage! I use it and I love it, but buyer beware, it can get pricey, but then again, it breaks down to like $25 a month for foundation, concealer and finish powder.

I can see that you definitely have a beautiful complexion. With a tan like yours, all you need is some foundation or tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone (try Laura mercier or Bobbi Brown), add some concealer, some loose powder. Then, curl your lashes and apply a lengthening mascara, smudge on some brown liner, apply bronzer for a healthy glow and some pinky brown lipstick. It will look very natural and will enhance your natural beauty.

Go to a makeup counter at a department store and ask them to help you. MAC is the best. Do not apply foundation if you have a nice and clear face. If you want some color, try bronzers and if you want some lipstick, try some gloss.

LESS IS DEFINATELY MORE! (or what appears less :)
I use a foundation stick applied with a sponge so you get light even coverage...using your fingers ads xtra unecessary foundation..and a few germs.
I then use a loose powder applied with a brush.
I use a cheek gel/stick as it gives a hint of sheer colour (you use this on ur cheeks then blend in)
Then a tinted lip gloss.
A brown or black eyeliner lightly applied to the top & bottom of my eyes (some ppl add alittle gold or silver (subtlely) on the inner V of the eye as this makes your eyes look brighter)
And a curling & lengthening mascara (preferably black)

Okay. I don't wear a lot of makeup but I learned how to put it on by going to a Mary Kay consulant. She showed me how to put it on, and take it off. I went to one whose makeup was on like I like it. It was very benifical because it taught me a lot about skin and makeup. You shouldn't look like you are wearing any and going to a professional really helped. MAC is also a good person to go to. They can make sure you have the right stuff and the right colors and make sure you are putting it on correctly and blending it right... it's all about the blend
