I don't personally smoke pot but back in my day smoking pot made you a rebel. Now it's just as common as smoking ciggerettes. The things people are doing to get high these days is much more dangerous. Believe me I hope my kids never try drugs but if pot is all they do I will consider myself blessed.

The problem is over the years countries have speant a lot of money in "the war on drugs" and many politicians don't want to be considered soft on crime or pro-drug. I agree that pot is harmless when used by adults, but not when used as a crutch. Watch the movie "Grass" it really outlines the different myths through the decades that people still believe.
I'm from Canada where most people think it is so easy to buy marijuana here, but it is actually expensive and illegal. Why? There could be so much money made from taxes! No one has died from use, just make sure there are roadside marijuana tests and laws to punish people who drive stoned.
Alcohol and cigarettes are disgusting and heavily abused in my country, but to smoke a joint and get the munchies you are breaking the law! You never see a fight after people smoke joints, but go to the local bar and sure enough violence follows. The worst thing that happens is people will argue over music or something stupid when they are stoned. But it always ends in laughter.
More research needs to be done, I'll admit that. But look at countries that have relaxed or dropped their laws on pot. The kids still go to school and in some cases are doing better than North America in testing. They still work and contribute to society! Small farms would have a great crop that requires little to no pesticides.
Kids are involved in crime when they use pot beause it is illegal, make it legal and over time it will not be as "badass" and cool. They won't have to go to drug dealers and get involved in that lifestyle.
Restricting someone's personal choices in a prohibition setting does not change behaviour! We need education and to end the prison state.

Just because it's all someone might ever do in relation to other drugs doesn't mean it couldn't go horribly wrong.

Pot might be less drastic than other drugs, but that doesn't make it right. Point is, if we stop worrying about certain things just because worse items come up, eventually REALLY REALLY bad things will come up in the world and those things that used to be just "really bad" will then be the things that we "shouldn't worry about".

Pot might not have as much immediate killing power (in some cases it actually might) but in general, it does much other things. It makes you lazy, and plenty of kids want it so it can start a chain of drug selling or a chain of more using. If someone wants to smoke pot what motivates them NOT to try something else? It blurs perception, you can easily do things you would not being sober, and accidents happen because of it.

Call me crazy, but I think we should stop focusing on what drug is bad and what one is worse etc. etc. and just ask ourselves why we let things in these categories happen in the first place, or why we just ignore it when it starts. I see a problem with drugs in the future because of how so many people wonder "what the big deal is" with drugs like pot. If we let something slide through now, what does that open doors too? You wouldn't tell your child he could go do something slightly wrong just once because it wasn't so bad, would you? Give them an inch and they'll take a mile . . every thing that causes any amount of hurt shouldn't have a cheek turned to it just because it's not as bad as something else.

Even though the pot is a lessor evil than crack, and maybe even lessor than alcohol, it is still an evil.
It's like eating carbs all day long with no fruit, veggies or meat. The carbs would be a better diet than eating cow dung every day, because dung is still just a pile of poop !Good luck !

There are worse things out there, but that does not make pot any better for you.
