To each their own, or as the song goes "If It Makes You Happy" .. The only ones I really feel bad for are the young kids. Hopefully they can decide for themselves when they get older,.

On the bright side they use so little resources & create minimal pollution they offset some of the rest of us power consuming folks.

No, they have a neo Trump attitude.I live in an area surrounded by Amish, and they pay no taxes on their land through a religious exemption. They make a killing off the tourists. They act like they have such a healthy lifestyle, yet when a child is 16 as with the jews they go through an adult hood ritual, many of them doing drugs and alcohol and sex.But they turn their heads and ignore it.Personally, I compare them to illegal mexicans. Also, they claim no ties to the modern man;but they will ride buses and use "Your" telephone!I love their simple lifestyle, and if I were a con to, I could probably get away with it!They are crazy, crazy like a fox!!!!!!!!!!Dukalink do some research as to their not getting any Govt. help.Check their tax records!Just a couple years ago, there was an amish girl here that pressed charges againt her brother and uncles for having forced sex with her (real honorable) and she won.

No that is their culture...that is all the Amish know. I saw a tv series called "amish in the city" it was about some city people living in a house with Amish people...of course there was disputes between them all but the Amish couldnt believe seeing what cities look like and seeing an ocean!!

So, to sum all this up....no Amish arent crazy they would probably think that you are crazy instead...

Good Luck Mate : )

The Amish are not crazy. I am not Amish. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit but I beieve the Amish have something there and I agree with a lot of it. Unfortunately, in the world I live in, I have to use technology, but I would like to not have to. And I do my best to limit the technology I use, walk instead of driving gor short distances, use snail mail instead of email when I can, recycle, mail my #3- #7 plasctics to a recycling facility that will recycle them when the one in my city doesn't. They only recycle #1 & #2 plastics, paper and clear glass. I do my own orgainic gardening. I shop at a market that only sells meat from animals raised on free range, organic farms. And I am saving up for a Honda electric hybrid. I plan to one day form a non-profit organization in which all members will make donations and we will raise money to keep on buying property to restore to it's natural state and on this property, we may visit and stay so long as we abide by our own environmentalist rules of keeping things simple and using renewable sources of energy such as horses, etc.

No, the Amish are not crazy, my friend. The people in this society in which we live are the ones who are crazy for ruining the Earth and for thinking that the Amish have nothing to teach them.

No, I don't think they are crazy. I think they are trying to live out their faith in a very complicated world. It is difficult to be a part of any subculture, but to choose the lifestyle of that culture and continue despite a fast and furious current in the opposite direction is extraordinarily difficult.

I'm Mennonite, and I would like to comment further. I hope you will keep this question open for another day or two so that I can come up with some time to answer appropriately. Thank you.

i recommend watching The Villiage.... it doents tell u anything about the amish.. but in a way it gives you an idea...

the amish people want to live a life of simplicity... they dont need all the necessities that the rest of the world needs.. just the basic stuff..

they think if u could live w/o things.. then u dont need it..

they're not crazy
they just have a different way of living... just like you and me. we might think they are because they can live with out electricity, ect and we can't. but in other ways, they're saving energy, and have a more efficient life. we in some ways rely on technology, but they rely on more essential things. And acfually... if we were all like the Amish, then we'd all have a more pleasant life! They are probley one of the most honest living people ever!

I don't think they're crazy, but I also wouldn't want to be Amish. They're doing just fine and most of them are happy with their lifestyle. I do respect the high morality that they exact from each other.

Yes, I saw an Amish guy trying to change a tire and he'd been riding a horse!

Put it this way...Does the Amish think we are crazy? They have their way of living and we have our way of thinking. We may not necessary want to live like them, but it is not right to make the assement of THEIR lives.
