Yup, I find that really annoying too. When I use the little Yahoo! link in the upper left corner, it opens a new browser window. What a pain. I just use the home button, but this should be much easier.
I doubt if they are listening - so I don't look for it to be fixed anytime soon.

I have yahoo set as my homepage so I just hit the home button on my browser. You can also just click the tiny "yahoo" button in the very upper left corner of the window.

We can't change it now, it's been made permanent unless sometime in the future Yahoo gives us a choice to use the classic again. You can use the Send Feedback at the bottom and tell Yahoo what you think and how you feel, that's what everyone is doing.

In the top left corner of the page is a tiny link to Yahoo!. It is on all pages while in mail.

There is a little tiny grey Yahoo in EVERY left hand corner. Just don't forget that you are still signed in if you are using a public computer...
