Because he is the living embodiment of the emotionally underdeveloped, greedy, insulated, uber-wealthy, Fat Republican! He is CLUELESS as are the other Bushies about anything having to do with the ordinary person in these United States.

Many people are more willing to support a sitting President out of respect and party loyalty. If Cheney had declared his intentions to run fro President, more of the party loyals would at least feign their support. As it is, Cheney has no intention of even remaining in politics (at least on a national level), so people don't really even care about him.
Also, anything that would win him support that would normally be a duty of a regular VP has been hijacked by Bush in desparation to do anything that might help him in the polls, because it is the President's ratings that lend the executive branch the power to do anything politically.

I like Cheney myself, granted in 2004 a part of me did feel Bush should pick Rice for VP instead of Cheney only because of a possibility it would boost the chances of Rice becoming Pres in 2008 plus Cheney does not wish to run for Pres in 2008.
Although now im leaning more towards Tom Tancredo for Pres in 2008

Cheney, in speaking about his Gay daughter to conservative audiences, has done more for Gay people out here in The Real World than all the liberals and hollywood types put together.
This is one reason for liberals to hate him--- they think they own the Gay vote, and the black vote, and so on.
Plus, the anti-Bush propaganda machine has chosen to portray Bush as the stupid one and Cheney as the evil power behind the scenes. It's hard to know anything about Cheney. You all ought to read Mary Cheney's book if you want to know more.

I think Bush and Cheney have different levels of support because Bush seems so simple (to put it mildly) which makes him seem more innocent. Cheney comes off as calculated, and Bush as a puppet. Though I think they're both pretty calculated.

I think it's because Cheney seems a bit detached. Bush gives statements to the press all the time, but I don't hear much about Cheney. I assume it's because he's not talking to them as much.

Cheney is seen as the enforcer, not Bush! He is also seen by many people as the president.
In fact, in the poll if historians who named Bush the worst president also names Cheney as the second worstll!!

Because he has a 20 million dollar pension from an oil company. That wouldn't be any conflict of interest when he's in a position to invade where most of the world's oil is.
