The Morning After Pill.?

No, your friend is wrong. The morning after pill prevents pregnancy from ever occurring to begin with.

Your friend may be just misinformed and confused, or she may be thinking of the "abortion pill", which is called Mifeprex. Mifeprex DOES cause an abortion to occur.

But the morning after pill is a completely different thing. Here's an excerpt on how it works:

Human conception rarely occurs immediately after intercourse. Instead, it occurs as long as several days later, after ovulation. During the time between intercourse and conception, sperm continue to travel through the fallopian tube until the egg appears. So taking emergency birth control the "morning after" isn't too late to prevent pregnancy.

The active ingredients in morning-after pills are similar to those in birth control pills, except in higher doses. Some morning-after pills contain only one hormone, progestin (Plan B), and others contain two, progestin and estrogen. Progestin prevents the sperm from reaching the egg and keeps a fertilized egg from attaching to the wall of the uterus (implantation). Estrogen stops the ovaries from releasing eggs (ovulation) that can be fertilized by sperm.

It actually does two things. First of all it acts to prevent the egg from being fertilized, however, in the event that the egg has already been fertilized by the time the pill is taken, then it will prevent the egg from attaching to the walls of the uterus and will i"induce a miscarriage" if you will.....
I took one several years ago and it caused me to have me period like a week early and i was so nauseaus and crampy.
It sucks having to take one, but in most cases, it works. May i suggest though that instead of relying on the morning after pill, it would be a better idea to actually get on a daily oral contraceptive, or use other methods of contraception.

The morning after pill prevents fertilization of the egg. It's basically a higher dose of "the pill".

It makes you start your period, which sheds the lining of the uterus. It keeps the fertilized egg from implanting and it just comes out with the blood.

Since a sperm lives seven days it just distills them so that they're not fertile or whatever and it makes your eggs imune to it so that one day after you still have a chance
