Let's all say Malpractice!
Darlin' you sound like someone who could have been seen by a doctor in a little town around here. He is a repetitive over medicator of his patients and my father in law was under his :care: (loose use of the word), and was staggering, losing his memory, seeing people who weren't there, etc. He was on 27 different meds and he had no history of heart problems, diabetes, stroke etc. We almost lost him the first time due to this. Regrettably, this little place doesn't have many "good" doctors so changing to someone else was like playing russian roulette. Our best bet was to try and keep and eye on his medications being perscribed. The second time however we weren't so fortunate, his organs shut down and we lost him in May.
An incompetent doctor is absolutely as dangerous as a child doing the same work...neither knows well enough the medical requirements to actually be able to make a good, accurate diagnosis. Your doctor plain and simple, is a candidate for re entry into medical school again to redo his education because it obviously didn't take first time around. He's ready for a suit that throws his reputation into the crapper if he isn't careful, a wrongful death suit isn't something he wants on his record. Thankfully you came through all of this to still be with your children and grandchildren. In these instances tho, people tend to not act on something that they should...because they soon get on with life and although well intentioned, they don't bother to go any further. Then someone else comes along and they end up being the victim who is mamed, injured or worse and the legal action is put into motion then. Unfortunately, this doctor might have already treated and endangered hundreds of patients...if you can stop him? Do so.
See if you can confer with a lawyer who specializes in Medical Malpractice. You should be able to have a conference with him for a half hour or hour without charge, you can run over your complaint with him and from there he can determine whether this is a case that is worth pursuing on your behalf. If he believes that you have a strong enough case, he may be very willing to forgo payment until the winning of the case.
Good luck, take care and hope it all works out well for you

In my experience, the only legitimate reason to take out a pacemaker and send a patient home without one is because of sepsis (infection). If a physician puts another pacemaker in and you have a systemic infection, then the chances are really high of the new pacing system to be infected, too. Usually patients are sent home with antibiotics and plans are made to put in another one in a few weeks. If the indication was an unstable rhythm, then the patient gets antibiotic therapy over a long period in the hospital.
It is completely normal to leave existing pacing wires in whenever a pacemaker is removed for infection or any other reason (there's several reasons for a pacer to be explanted).
