I will be hiking. Once I get through Mexico...what should I do to get down all the way to San Jose', South America?

Never leave the country without a passport. If you have to ask questions like these - you should not be making this trip. I suggest you read about the places you plan on 'hiking' through. Central America isn't a park.

Anyway, I think you should address someone who has some similar experience. I recommend you to ask the same question on a good hiking and trekking forum, I am sure the guys there will find a solution for this .

No, I wasn't born in this country, but I've been since birth, a U.S. citizen. Though I have dual citizenship, I've never had to show anything but my U.S. passport. Who keeps a current passport of another country once they have a U.S. passport? What for?

walk, and be make sure you recive shots to prevent any disease that you might come acroos during your tek through the jungle.
