I just got told by my mother in law what a terrible person I am because I drink Homo milk instead of 2% or skim, please someone let me know if this is really affecting my breast milk or if she is just being judgemental and mean like usual!

I know just how you feel I have a mother-n-law that likes to give her 2 cents about everything...I breastfeed and drink/use whole milk for cooking...My mother-n-law keeps telling me how bad it is and how can you drink that and blah blah blah, she uses 2% which I think taste like water but anyway you will not harm your baby by drinking whole milk. You are supposed to give babies whole milk to drink when they are old to drink milk anyway...Good Luck with mother-n-law!!

Unless you have been seriously malnourished for many years *or* your child has an allergy to something you are eating, it doesn't matter *what* you eat. It won't affect the baby. And it is impossible for a baby to be allergic to some milk and tolerate milk with different amounts of fat.

*All* milk you buy commercially in the US (I don't know about other countries) is homogenized. The only difference is the fat content, which will *in no way* affect your milk supply. You don't *need* to drink milk at all, but if you do, which milk you drink is just a matter of what you prefer.

Calling you a "terrible person" is a bit too much and I'd say she's just being judgmental and finding some way to pick on you. From what I understand, homogenized milk is healthy since it reduces the chances of having digestion problems. I doubt it bothers breast milk.

I have no idea what Homo milk is. Whole? Homogenized?

In any case, milk is a fine thing to drink while nursing. And your baby doesn't care whether it's whole, 2% or skim. YOU might care, because it's extra calories for you, but it makes no difference to your little one.

And when your child switches to cow's milk, instead of nursing, you'll WANT him/her to drink whole milk until his/her second birthday. They NEED the extra calories and fat.

There is nothing wrong with it at all! Your mother in law may be thinking of some old wives tale or something but dont worry! All milk is perfectly heathy while breastfeeding. If it wasn't your doctor would have told you!

She's just uninformed. There is nothing wrong with you drinking whole milk while breastfeeding. Nursing moms need to consume more calories than the non-nursng mom. In fact, most studies show you can eat almost anything while nursing... spicy, gassy, etc. It will not upset your baby's stomach.

Absolutely nothing wrong with drinking whole milk while nursing. I did & have two beautiful, healthy, strong children, ages 2 & 4.
