1978 Fifa World Cup Argentina
Match Scotland - Iran was a draw 1:1
Goals scored:
ESKANDARIAN Andaranik (Iran) 43' (og)
DANAIYFAR Iraj (Iran) 60'
OG: Own Goal

So it wasn't Iran who knocked Scotland out of the World Cup
The matches played by Scotland were:
Scotland:Netherlands 3: 2 (WON)
Scotland:Iran 1:1 (DRAW)
Peru:Scotland 3:1 (LOST)
It was Peru who knocked Scotland out, previous to their match each one had 3 points (1 win + 1 draw --- remember 1 win=2 points), and Peru with a better goal difference (Peru +3, Scotland +1):
Goals Scored (Peru-Scotland)
JORDAN Joe (Scotland) 14'
CUETO Cesar (Peru) 43',
CUBILLAS Teofilo (Peru) 72', 77'

Actuall, Iran didn't knock Scotland of of the World Cup. In that match Andraník Eskandarian started by scoring an own goal which gave Scotland the lead, 1-0. But then Iraj Danaifar levelled the scores making it 1-1.

This was Scotland's second game in the group, having previously lost 3-1 to Peru. Amazingly, Scotland could still qualify: there was just the little matter of beating Holland by three goals. Even with no luck on their side they came naggingly close.
Scotland were leading 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining. One more goal and the impossible would be astounding reality. But Holland, who'd been going through the motions a little after an early injury to Neeskens, roused themselves to score as if on demand. Johnny Rep made it 3-2.
Meanwhile in that game Bruce Rioch headed against the bar, Kenny Dalglish had a goal disallowed and Joe Jordan might have had a penalty, but the Scots were out.

Remarkably, the Scottish FA allowed Ally McLeod to keep his job as manager, but he resigned after one more match. It was the last time anything was expected of Scotland in the World Cup

It was Iraj Danaeifard . He played well in the tournament and many still remember his goal against Scotland. After the World Cup he retired from international football with 17 caps and 3 goals for his country. Eskandiran scored an own goal, the match was tied 1-1.
