Yes, extremely friendly and courteous. During my stay in both Hong Kong and Mainland China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Xiamen) I found people to be very helpful, respectful, and very, very friendly.

However, they are also very private people, and it takes them a long time to warm up to "guai-los / guai-pos". But once they feel a foreigner will honor & respect their culture and is sincere in his/her attempt to live according to Chinese believes & traditions while in their country, they become very outgoing and make wonderful, honest, sincere friends (who even taught a guai-po how to savely cross a main street in Shanghai and patiently answered all questions with a wonderful sense of humor).

Unfortunately, way too many American guai-los and guai-pos are ignorant of the cultures and traditions of Asian countries (as well as being ignorant of cultures/traditions of any country outside the US, for that matter) and fail to see how their rude and obnoxious behavior can insult people of other cultures.

Neither Chinese Government nor the Chinese themselves would ever deliberately insult a foreigner or would go out of their way to harm others (unlike the US).

Simple comparison:
which Nation started the majority of wars ? US not China
which Nation has the highest crime rate ? US not China
which Nation has the lowest level of education ? US not China

Yes, China is indeed a friendly country, who has her crime rate under control, has a high level of education, who is not known to invade other countries under false pretenses..... and of course the Government reserves their right to run their own country the way they feel best (the Chinese Govmt does not run the country into ruin, it improves the country's economy, it does not invade other countries for oil....)

I dont think that China intends harm upon others, in general. I know that they consider Taiwan to be a rogue state and desire re-unification with them, even if it takes military force to do so. I wish that they would cease their programs in Tibet. Beating up on pacifists does not make them look good at all.
Generally China looks after its' business interests in much the same way that any other nation does.
I am happy that they have a space program. I know that they see things in the long view. If they are making steps into space, they will stay there. Not like the US-Russia space race that was just so much political showing off. China will become an important part of mankind's presence in space. This helps the whole world. I can be altruistic about their space program.

I work in China around ince a month and i can say for sure that the Chinese people are very friendly. They are in general very interested in the way that we western people live and in many ways try to emulate us.There are no signs of the old communist regime anymore in China. I would say that China is state controlled not communist. In most of the large cities you see a range of very expensive cars, BMW, Mecedes etc and the people dress in Western fashion.
Do yourself a favour once in your life visit Shanghai its amazing. If you want to see pics visit my web page images section.

Yeah, i think it's the US that's unfriendly. We're propagandized against communism so much, without actually being taught anything about it. Go to any american high school and ask about prinicipals of communism and they'll probably say, "I don't know, but i know it's bad". They talk about how oppressive they're government is and we need to defend their honor, well I work for a company based in China, and from what I hear, the government isn't that directly involved in the normal citizen's everyday life. I guess I'll find out in August, I'm going to zhu hai.

No, I do not think China, as a government entity, is friendly.
Dictatorships that jail dissidents, torture them, condemn them to death penalty and to forced labour, that do not care nor for the environment nor for reducing social inequality or taking care of the welfare of all its citizens, that allow sweatshops and forced labour to exist in their territory, that do not have freedom of speech and hide things from the public, that censor the internet, that sell weapons to terrible dictatorships and pariah states like Sudan or Burma, and that have invaded and occupied peaceful countries for nothing more than their own imperialistic desires (like you did with Turkestan, Tibet and Vietnam), are not to be considered very friendly.

In your defense, the US is not much better than China. Imperialism, accumulation of power in the hands of a few and weak democracy go hand in hand.

Edit: China is not communist. A country that engages in free market, that does not have even the most basic public healthcare system, that actively allows sweatshops to thirve and prosper... does not deserve to call itself communist, nor socialist, nor left-wing.
