Talk to your local fish store - the best idea on here so far has been the plastic bags. A large move I helped with (who had sensitive fish), involved using plastic bags (the kind you get your fish in from the shops), in a styrofoam container (to maintain temps).

Put the goldfish in seperate 1-2 gallon plastic bags. Don't fill any more than half full of water. When closing the bags, try to save as much air as you can (to allow oxygen exchange). Also, adding a little "stess coat" (may be referred to as "stress zyme" or similar) to the bags will help the fish. You'll want to put these in an insulated styrofome containers (good for keeping the temp more or less right).
Be sure to place a small amount of gravel from the tank into a bag full of the old water, with no fish. This will reduce the time it takes for the good bacteria to re-establish when you set the tank back up.

If you move a tank with water in it you run the risk of cracking the glass...Put the fish in their own bag with lots of air...Put the bag in a cooler with a heat pack (if its cold outside) or a cold pack(if its hot)...Buy a few battery operated air pumps (like $10)..Make sure you have extra batteries on hand. Get a splitter for the air line so you can run several lines from one pump. Put an airstone on the end of each line and put in the bag with the fish. Use a rubber band or garbage ties to keep it closed. (I use rubber bands, just close it before you attach the airline to the pump). You should be good to go. Make sure your tank is the last thing down and the first thing up! This really works...Ive done this when moving 1000 miles (15 hrs).

Drop the waer level in your tank JUST before you leave---Go to a pet store and have them order yu a battery operated pump, it isnt that expensive and that will give them air-block the top to keep them from jumping out. Once you get there (the water will be dirty but just ignore that--with a filter working it will straighten right up) fill the tank the rest of the way with about the same temperature water, hook up the filter and it will take all straighten out--be patient--it might not be pretty at first but it will clear up in a few hours

Buy a small cooler (a bigger one if there are a lot of goldfish) then also buy a small pump at any garden store or retail store, that will pump the water through and basically just recirculate it so the fish get more oxygen.

Put them in Tupperware containers with water and holes poked in the top for air, but not big enough to spill. Set the containers on the floor of your car.

get one of those rubbermaid totes with the locking lid and poke some small holes in the lid; that should be sufficient for getting them from place to place; make sure they arent in direct sunlight for too long nor in a place where they are getting alot of draft and of course remember to feed them :)
