First of all, it is a sick myth that fish only grow as large as their tank. They are cruelly stunted by ammonia. Thier outer body ceases to grow but their organs continue, causing a painfully slow death. No animal should have to endure that. Goldfish grow very large, they should never be housed in a bowl. Common and comet goldfish should grow over a foot long, and fancy goldfish grow as large as a grapefruit.
You need to either buy a much larger tank or a pond, depending on what kind of goldfish you have.

Too big for what? Either get a larger tank or move it to a pond if it is not already in one (do not release it into the wild). You can also trade it back to a pet shop or contact a local fish club to find someone who may want it.

Here is a wonderful website to check out answers to your questions and it also has good info on goldie care www.kokosgoldfish.com. It is free to join and ask questions. The mods on there are great and very knowledgable. Many have kept goldies for years.

As a general rule fish don't get any bigger than their tanks are...What I mean is their size is dictated by the tank...if you put them in a small tank they remain small, if you put them in a large pond the will grow bigger. Hope this is clear, don't mean to confuse you.

We took ours to a petstore that had a big indoor pond. They then sell them to people with outdoor fish ponds.
