I been on the pill for 4 months, and have NEVER missed one, however, I was spotting while ovulating the past few months, so I was told be my nurse practitioner to use back up. The day before she told me this, I happened to be ovulating ( I think) and we didn't use back up. If I've NEVER missed a pill, do I really need to worry? We're using back up now, but is there really any cause for concern?

Married, with one child already. Don't plan on aborting if I am.

Yes, you could be pregnant. I know 3 people that got pregnant while on birth control pills. They said they never missed one either.

I don't think you need to worry. The pill is very reliable, and given you've taken it as long as you have and haven't missed any days, I wouldn't worry.
(taken from orthowomenshealth.com) The process of ovulation is directed by hormones, which are chemicals made by the body. Some hormones signal for eggs to mature and be released from the ovary; others trigger changes in the lining of the uterus. Combination oral contraceptives [such as the pill] consist of synthetic versions of two of these hormones, estrogen and progestin; taken daily, they block the usual hormone “messages” that direct ovulation. (Note: estrogen and progestin, the active ingredients in the pill, are basically similar to the hormones that a woman's body naturally makes.) Egg development is blocked, so conception is prevented. Other effects of combination oral contraceptives help prevent sperm from reaching the egg and reduce the chance of the egg implanting in the uterus.
The biggie here is that the pill blocks egg development, without eggs-there will be no baby-regardless if sperm is present. In my opinion, the pill is the best thing you can do for yourself next to abstenence to prevent pregnancy. Just keep taking it the way you are suppose to and you should be fine. However, it doesn't protect against any kind of STD. If you don't know or are too shy to ask, condoms are your best bet. For more info, go to www.thepill.com. Best of luck!

I would say yes. You do need to use back up. Birth control pills, no matter what kind, only work about 95% of the time (or in 95% of women). You could be one of the few like me. I took them for a year only to find out that the only reason I haven't gotten pregnant yet is because my husband is always working when I'm on my peak ovulation days (he's an emt and satys at work for a week at a time).

There is always cause for concern when you have sex. Nothing is 100% guaranteed except abstinence. I have a girlfriend that has 2 sons. She was on the pill with both. So maybe you should do an EPT test just because...... I doubt you are pregnant and you are a smart one to use birthcontrol. Always use a condom for protection from disease. Good luck.

I thought that there was no ovulation while on the pill, there is a small chance to get pregnant while on the pill, especially if you are taking a medication that might interfere with its action.

There is a possibility of pregnancy. There isn't any form of birth control that is 100% effective against pregnancy. I have a friend who has gotten pregnant TWICE while on the pill and using protection.

One of my friends occasionally spots when she ovulates and she has never been pregnant. I have heard it isn't too uncommon for this to happen. I've also heard you can have mild cramping when you ovulate. I would suggest taking a home pregnancy test.
