Absolutely fine.
I'm 37, and I think the common denominator of all the answers so far is "Music."
I find Music is an audio snapshot of my life. When CatGirlTracy (above) mentioned "Rappers Delight" I was instantly transported to the 5th-grade playground with my friends from 26 years ago. How cool is that?
If someone mentions Public Enemy, I'm in High School, and if someone mentions Alice in Chains, I'm in College. Ask me about Squirrel Nut Zippers, and I'm on a late 1990's date with my future wife.
Remember, a Rap singer has EXACTLY the same job description as Barbara Streisand - both are singers, some can be political, they make their money entertaining you - so YOU decide what you like and nobody can fault you for that.

There isn't just one type of hip hop. Honestly its one of the few genres that almost everyone can find an artist that they like. But mainstream rap has become so watered down that its looked at as only dance music or something for black people. It is way more than that... btw, I mess with Cormega, Nas, Immortal Technique, Lil Wayne, Biggie, etc etc.

I'm a 38 yr.old white female and I love it too. Always have since the first time I heard "Rapper's Delight" when I was 12 (and I still know all the words to it, lol).
