i want to use tampons so i can swim and have fun with my friends in the pool but im scared that they will hurt and that my mom and brothers will find out that im useing them.i REALLY like my space and privacy!what do i do?

im going to kansas and i will be doing a lot of swimming and camping.i also dont want my dad to find out or my step mom.what brand is the best if your just starting to use tampons?oh and im 12

Tampons are a life saver. I think you should try one everyones body is diffrent. They don't hurt me and it lets me do a lot of things like swim and is less messy at that time of the month. They come in little packages so there really not noticable. Easy to be hidden if thats what you want to do.

I like Playtes slim fits. Don't worry about your brothers and parents. They won't care if you are using tampons. As long as the tampon is the right absorbency and size they shouldn't hurt. Relax, angle the tampon at a slight angle towards your back and make sure that the outer covering is all the way in. Then push on the smaller tube which should push the tampon into your vagina. Go to the store and buy you a box of tampons, get the real slim ones. Plastic for easy insertion. My grandmother bought my first box of tampons for that very reason. You can't swim with that big ole pad on. That would be embarassing. Keep your trash emptied. Be honest, your mom is more understanding than you know. She might be upset that you ask for a minute, but after that she will realize why you want to wear them. Its a part of life, no need to be embarassed about using them. Use a slim tampon your first time - they will reduce the pressure and you'll not realize you're even wearing one. As for keeping things private - I completely understand. Make sure to wrap up your trash in tissue and throw it outside as soon as possible.
You may also want to talk with a doctor about reducing the number of periods you have. There are birth control pills on the market that allow you to have a period ever four months and they perfectly safe - you may want to look into these (Levelen 28 and Seasonal)

They don't hurt, but it's a weird feeling that takes some time to get used to.
What's wrong with your mom finding out? She understands more than you might think. Ask her for a special place to put your tampons so that your brothers won't see them. Maybe you can use her bathroom instead of the one your brothers use.

Totally normal for it to take a while until you finally get it done and figured out. Just keep trying. If it's not happening one day, try some other day. Most important, try to relax! Use the smallest to get it figured out, squatting or some other position may make it more comfortable and easier. Eventually you'll probably surprise yourself and get it. ; )

I was always afraid to use them even until i was married, but when my younger sister started using them with no problems at age 13 i decided i was being a wuss. Try tampax satin glide for teens. and unless your mom is totally against things like this, try talking to her about wanting to use them. They are only scary until you start using them, then it's no big deal. Not to be gross, but you can't even find a pad in my mom's house.

tampons dont hurt! i just started using them a 2 months ago they work! its awesome! u will get used to it have ur mom show u how!

we'll, if you are a virgin, honestly, it will hurt, because the tampon, not to be too graphic, is going the same place that... well... you get my drift, use pads for now, and go to the beach when you're off your period, it only lasts 4-5 days.

o.b. tampons are really small, its worth a try not to have to use those bulky pads every month. when you first put one in really try to relax, breath deeply and put one leg up on the toilet or squat and gently put it in. if it hurts you can always stop.
