Well if you don't and have it go unchecked it leads to whole slew of health related issues...If you family has running history of High blood pressure, low blood pressure Heart attacks, Strokes Diabetes, these are a few things that kinda go hand and hand with blood pressure, if undetected or at worse untreated, it can be at worse fatal...know your family History, Fairly common blood pressure runs arond 125/80, top number is pressure coming from heart, lower number is returning pressure to heart, I may have it backwards, you can check WebMd and they have some really good info on their website...I hope this helps...

Everybody has - and needs - blood pressure. Without it, blood can't circulate through your body. And without circulating blood, your vital organs can't get the oxygen and food they need to work.
That's why it's important that you know about blood pressure - and how to keep it in the proper range.
When your heart beats, it pumps blood into your arteries and creates pressure in them. This pressure (blood pressure) causes your blood to flow to all parts of your body.
If you're healthy, your arteries are muscular and elastic. They stretch when your heart pumps blood through them. How much they stretch depends on how much force the blood exerts.
Your heart beats about 60 to 80 times a minutes under normal conditions. Your blood pressure rises on contractions and falls when your heart relaxes between beats. Your blood pressure can change from minute to minute, with changes in posture, exercise or sleeping.

basically, if its too high, you can go into cardiac arrest because it usually reflects how fast your hearts working. if its too low, your organs can start to shut down and not function, mainly the brain, and if not taken care of, result in death. its pretty bad, but as long as you eat right and exercise regularly and get checked every 2 years, you'll be fine.
