I took my 12 year old to the doctors a couple of weeks ago because he was having problems with his hands and he seemed to be in some pain. He was referred to a specialist at the hospital. We attended the appointment on Friday and he was in with the specialist for one and a half hours. I was shocked to be told that my 12 year old has repetative strain injury through playing his X-Box and Playstation. Now he has to wear hand braces and may need painful injections or hand surgery. I think Sony, Nintendo and all those gaming console manufacture should pay for the damage they do our kids, anyone agree. I would like to read your thoughts on this subject.

No, I think parents should be responsible enough to limit the time their children spend on such consoles, if you read the warnings that are with the consoles and every game that comes out for the consoles, you'll see that it says you need at least a 15 minute break every hour, so they cover themselves. I have no sympathy for you.

No, it's your responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen to your child. I make sure my son isn't on the computer or playstation for too long, I also make sure he doesn't watch too much telly, or sit too close to any of the screens. My son is now a teenager, and he's still very sensible about his gaming habits, he still asks us first if he's allowed on the computer etc. No, you shouldn't try to sue Nintendo, Sony or whatever, they didn't sit your son in front of a console and say, here play this until your hands hurt. It's your fault, you didn't take responsibility, you should have kept an eye on his gaming right from the start.

I had a similar injury, including blisters and whatnot when I was young (we are talking awhile ago when Intellivision was a hit). I don't think the companies can be liable because it is an extreme case. I played constantly and was injured. If I alternated with another activity more frequently perhaps it wouldn't have happened. It's a risk, like tearing an ACL in softball or eating too many Big Macs.
Good luck with your son. Hopefully the surgeries won't be necessary...mine healed fine.

No i don't. You chose to buy the consoles for your child. Maybe you should have monitored how much it was being used coz it would have to be a hell of a lot to get RSI from it? I honestly think that Sony and/or Nintendo etc would laugh in your face if you tried.

It is the parents responsibility to monitor what games your child plays and for how long! Do you let your child play video games for 8 hours non stop? Maybe he plays video games during his beddy time! Sorry to say, its ur own fault
