It depends on what you do. If what you do for your job is something is enjoyable, then that can motivate you to do it. If you don't like your job, but are a very responsible individual, that can motivate you to keep plugging away.
You can like the job, you can hate the job. You can like or hate your fellow employees. You can just be there for the paycheck.
The only real way to be motivated at work is you.
What you like and who you are will help you stay motivated to do your job, for whatever goal you might have.

What keeps me motivated at work is the thought of having a paycheck. No matter how bad I hate my job I keep in mind that I don't have to live there. Pretty soon the eight hours of pain will evaporate as soon as I punch out. Keyword=Paycheck

Motivated...hmmm. There needs to be more than money to motivate those of us who are beyond entry level. In my work, motivation comes from truly helping someone help themself. There is nothing better than someone improving his/ her own life..and you being an instrumental presence in the process.

I think most importantly you have to like what you do. Second, always to remember what is the purpose of tasks you do and you feel you make a difference. Like I post in ad in a magazine because I am trying to bring more sales for the company which translates into integrity, respect and increase in salary in the future. By recognizing the effect of my tasks, I feel like I am doing something to help the company. I also like to read articles in my field that help me to guide my career goals. That way I am not just thinking about changes in my industry but I am looking out for my long term goals.

Well if you have a list of things to do, do the fun and easy things first. It is psychlogically proven, people are more motivated to continue working if you do the enjoyable work first.

You think of whatever debt you have (first and foremost bills and any applicable over due accounts. If not for this job (especially now in my opinion), you either wouldn't be making as much or likely not being able to pay them/pay them off, so stick with it, because at the end of the week you STILL get paid.

If your work isn't motivating enough, why not find something else to do? You have to find things that interest you and stick with them while doing your best work.

Every morning before you step out for work tell yourself this:

"I'm lucky to have a job. May God help those who's still struggling to put a simple meal on the table."
