Which states are friendliest? The least friendly? (Come up w/ your own list of 3-5 each. Thanks!)?
My picks:
Friendliest (in order):
1. Texas (except for Dallas proper)
2. Mississippi (Southhaven is great, in particular!)
3. Alabama
4. Tennessee
5. Georgia
Least friendly (in order):
1. California
2. New Jersey
3. Kentucky (I HATED every single minute living there, the people are snobby and pretentious, especially in Louisville and Lawrenceburg. I lived in four different communties in west, central, and northern KY, and had an opportunity to visit 94 of 120 counties, so I can tell you firsthand what it's like. Yes, in Kentucky of all places!)
4. Indiana
5. Maryland
Where would you like to live? Is it where you are now, or elsewhere? Or, where do you not want to live? Just curious, or otherwise I wouldn't ask (lol). I'd love to live in Texas, and if not that, then Mississippi.

From my own experiences the friendliest are:
1.Maine
2.Virginia
3.North Carolina
4. Indiana
5. Minnesota
The least:
1.New Jersey
2. Southern New York (its such a big state.. upstate is wonderful so I won't nail the whole state as bad)

Friendliest? California, except some little towns and certain cities. Washington, Massachussets, Rhode Island, (in at least one town) and Texas
Least friendly States? Missouri, Arizona, Oregon, (unless you know a bit of history about something that happened in Oregon)
Kansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Gerogia, Maryland, Hawaii (except the Hula dancers and some times the teens)

I love Texas. It is where I live now. I have lived in Arizona, Utah, Illinois, Missouri, and Maryland. Maryland was the worst. I think anytime you get near the D.C. area you come across a lot of rude people. In Texas, everyone smiles, says hi and chats. You can strike up a conversation in any grocery store line. My kids pediatrician gives me a big hug every time she sees me. In fact, our attorney and accountant greet us with hugs too. In Maryland, if I smiled at someone they looked at me like I had two heads.

Here's my lists, though my experiences in different states are numbered. By far the friendliest people I have encountered are in Minnesota. But I've noticed that the farther away from cities you get, the friendlier people become, no matter what state you are in!
Friendliest:
1) Minnesota
2) Iowa
3) Arkansas
Unfriendliest:
1) Illinois
2) Virginia
3) Maryland
