I had been having this sharp, stinging pain that was located on my left side, toward my back. That was about 3 weeks ago, and when it started, it was for only appx. 5 minutes, once or twice a day. It has been getting progressively worse, with more and more new symptoms occuring. Now, the other evening I was awakened by this pain, so excruciating it made me nauseus, my stomach got hard, I had menstrual like pain, but also in my back, and I felt like I had to go #2. The pain would subside, then come back full force. This lasted for over 2 hours!

I have not had any bloody discharge (that goodness) and I had a non-stress test that showed the baby was perfectly fine, and they said I wasn't having contractions - however I wasn't having the pain during the test. Are they Braxton Hicks, and any thoughts on the duration and seriousness of them? Please help, I still have 10 more weeks to go!!

Dont consider the term of your pregnancy as a reason to not be in full labor - I gave birth at 29 weeks from seemingly mild contractions. You should go to the nurse or doctor and have your cervix checked. If it as all dilated (Brackston Hicks cant dilate the cervix), you should go to the hospital immediately and have them arrest the labor.... If the pains are regular, skip the nurse and go to the hospital. The worst thing that can happen is that they send you home. Belive me, you dont want a 30 weeker to be born in an ambulance... Good luck!

When I was pregnant (twice) my Braxton Hicks contractions weren't really painful, just a little uncomfortable. I just felt a tightening in my abdomen. If you are having that much pain I think I would have it checked out again and maybe get a second opinion. Good Luck!

I had contractions when i was 30 weeks pregnant with my daughter. I went to the hospital where they gave me a shot for the pain, a shot of steriods for my daughter as a precaution, to help develop her lungs quickly in case they were unable to stop the contractions, and then they place a patch on my stomach which realised something into my system to stop my cervix from contracting..

Mine was caused by stress and living in a house hold with 7 smokers and being the only non smoker, put me in bed for weeks and gave me early labor.

Fortunatley they were able to stop the contractions, and i went home the next day and then was monitored from week to week until my 40th week, then i had my daughter

I had the same thing happen to me for almost 5 hours after my husband and I had sex, and I thought I was going into labor (around 36wks) and I called the Doc, he said that if I'm not bleeding not to worry about it, to take a Tylenol for the back pain and just relax.... I'm sure everything's alright

But from everything I've read those are signs of premature labor, so I would just suggest you call the Doc and ask what's going on...

I'm thinking of calling him now I've been having contractions for about 6 hrs now... don't know if they are BH's or not, hopefully not, cause I want him out now!! LOL....

I more likely that it's round ligament pain than Braxton Hicks. It is caused by rapid expansion of the uterus and stretching of ligaments. It usually comes to a big spectacular head toward the end of the pregnancy. Mine was especially horrible with my last mini me.

My Braxton Hicks never felt anything like that. I have been pregnant four times. My Braxton Hicks were always painless, unless I was a little low on calcium. I think you should talk to your doctor.

i had my daughter at 32 weeks. take it easy on yourself. they tell you that exercise is good, but once you get to a certain point...... i think you should shuffle in to the doctor's the next time you feel it. i myself would not take a chance of having a preemie. but that's just me, i'm a high-risk prego.

ya, that's braxton-hicks for ya - it's when they don't stop and get more intense that you are in real labour, but look at it as practice, I guess, and DON'T PANIC!! Good luck!
