This is the first brandy new laundry set I will be purchasing and would love for it to last for years hopefully with no immediate problems. I also don't want to spend a fortune for all the bells and whistles these appliances have these days. I've narrowed it down to these -- LG 7cycle,Whirlpool Duet Ultra, GE King or the Maytag Neptune. All reviews appreciated-thanks

I have had a whirlpool duet for about 6 months. I am very happy with it. It does very large loads, gets the clothes clean and is more gentle than my old washer.
It pulls so little water that people taking showers don't notice the hot water loss.
Some things were hard to get used to, but this is probably true for all front loaders.
I have to wash the shower curtain with a LOT of towels now, with careful positioning at the start. The washer flops things over and over, but does not twist or manipulate them enough to get the folds of the shower curtain open.
The duet has a sectioned drawer for detergent, bleach, and softener. It is not easy to hit the little detergent box with a full bottle of Tide, and even harder to hit the tiny bleach box. In addition, if you don't run a FULL cycle with extra rinse, you may get bleach spots on your next load.
My solution was to buy a refrigerator bottle that has a large mouth screw on lid with a capped spout in it. I keep half strength bleach and water in it. It is small enough to get close to the drawer and not have splash over.
But I still like this washer anyway.

I have the Whirlpool Duet and absolutely love it. First of all, I have had Whirlpool appliances most of my adult life and have never had problems with them. Usually move and leave the appliances with the house. I swear by Whirlpool. The Duet is a good washer and a very quick dryer. I got them after my sister got hers and that is all she talked about. Several of my neighbors have them also.
