like can one president server two consecutive terms, than sit out one or two terms and run again?

Already been answered. Consecutiveness has nothing to do with it. Read the Constitution. 2 terms max.

Actually its more than two terms! A President may serve for a total of ten years! this means Gerald Ford could still have two full four years terms! He finished last two years of Nixon's terms so he has eight coming still. This was put in place in case a President died or left office. The correct total of years a President may serve is 10. Consecutive has nothing to do with it.
The below post is correct except keyword is elected! Yes its true no one man can be elected to more than two terms but he/she may still serve as President for no more than ten years. This means Gerald Ford (not elected) could have two more full terms

2 terms max. If they serve more that 50% + 1 day of another President's term, then that counts as one term. Consecutive doesn't matter.

George Washington (my Favorite) ws America's first president. He served a term, and then another. Seeing how the Monarchy of England was so corupt, He turned down his 3rd, so that America would not become dominated by one person. This is where we get only 2 terms from. FDR was the only to serve 3 and truthfully, America needed him all three terms. He is the excpetion not the rule.

This matter is now regulated by the 22nd Amendment (1951) which establishes that: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once...”
