The pre-condition is a valid passport of your own.
Visit nearby Indian Embassy/consulate in your country of residence, make an application in the prescribed format, deposit visa application/processing fee, attend an interview if required and you may get visa to visit India if the officer at the Embassy/consulate is satisfied for your genuine-ness and purpose of visit.
This is the procedure normally followed by all Embassies, High Commissions and consulates world over.

Go to your local Indian embassy. You will have to fill out application, show passport, and pay for the visa. Make sure to have everything ready before going...so maybe call first. Its important to get the visa way before you plan to travel in case they make a mistake. That happened to me and it wasn't good!!
