These questions usually worry me - they often seem to be part of someone's undisclosed agenda.
However ....
There appears to be a general "cultural conflict" shaping up. It has been building for decades, and it is not a "nationalistic" conflict. It is carried out generally along "conservative" and "progressive" lines.
For the most part, the expression of this conflict today is religious.
However, it appears that the main impetus is the conflict of scientific, secular explanations of the cosmos and lesser parts - for example, Dawinism - with "traditional" views about humanity and the heavens. The latter case includes the role of women in society, public standards of dress and behavior for both genders, and the availability of information that disturbs or upsets existing views of social structures.
This is a conflict which began in the 1400's with Galileo Galilei and has proceeded ever since - often accompanied by blood and fire.
The idea of a world war waged not on national allegiances, or even on religious allegiances, seems quite odd but increasingly likely. Fundamentalist, racist militia movements in the US might find reason to join forces with militant Islamists in much the same way the militarists of WWII made common cause. Do not believe for a moment that Hitler admired the Italians or the Japanese - or that they were any more trusting of Germany. Had the war turned out differently, the erstwhile Axis partners woud soon have been attacking each other.
An ancient culture based on imaginative views of the universe and misconceptions about human bodily functions had more than 20,000 years to establish itself in the global psyche. It is not going to pass away without a struggle.

The next war of international consequence will be a war triggered by a nuclear launch, and followed by a cascade of nuclear response. In a nuclear war your only means of survival would be to totally annihilate others who may pose a nuclear threat. The beginning of a nuclear exchange would see nations mass launching to " play it safe " by decimating any possible threat. By the way, the fourth " World War " will be fought with rocks. Are we getting closer, yes, the more nations with the " bomb " the greater the likelihood it will be used.
