1) They have to beat Ghana
2) Italy has to beat the Czech Republic
There is another way they could advance, but it's highly unlikely:
1) USA beats Ghana by four or more goals
2) Italy and Czech Republic draw 0-0
If the USA beats Ghana 4-0 in this scenario, I believe that the USA would advance based on having scored more goals.
They could also advance if the Czechs were to beat Italy:
1) Czechs beat Italy by two goals
2) USA beats Ghana by four goals
That would have Italy and USA level at four points, but the US would have a +1 goal differential, while the Italians would have 0 goal differential.
There is no way for the United States to win the group, though. Should they finish second, they would most likely face Brazil in the second round. This will mean that Italy and the Czechs will play hard to avoid finishing second and having to face Brazil, which would work in the USA's favor.

not this year they really got hit with a tough draw 3 of the top ten teams in the world plus the best african nation that was available what tough luck i think italy can beat czech republic but the us cant depend on own goals against ghana to win they will have to put the ball into the net and that means putting in eddie johnson which for some reason they refuse to do plus without pope we are going to struggle with speed on the back line

it's fairly likely. there's a good shot italy will beat czech. the us has to beat ghana, who is misssing the two players that scored for them against czech. if the americans play like they did against italy they should own ghana. italy should be embarrassed of the way they were handled before the americans' red cards.
Unfortunately people have very short memories and think ghana is a powerhouse because they upset czech. ghana isnt as good as people make them out to be.

The US should have won that game against Italy. That "obstruction" call was BS, along with the Red Card. That goal was clean, that was just a stupid call by the Ref.
But now its gonna be an uphill strugle to go to the 16.

the US must beat Ghana then can get in only if;
a) Italy defeats Czechs
b) Czechs defeat Italy, and the goal differential of that game + the US game's goal differential is greater then 4 (if Czechs win by 3 and US wins by 2 we're in)

Two scenarios:
-US beats Ghana and Italy beats Czech Republic. US edges past Czechs for 2nd place.
-US beats Ghana and Czech Republic beats Italy by more than 4 goals (highly unlikely). US edges past Italy on goal differential.
So, basically, US AND Italy must win their final matches.

italy has to beat the czech republic and usa has to beat ghana, its the easiest scenario. or if the above two tie, usa has to win by a margin of 5 goals which means 5:0 which is impossilbe.
