My favorite author is John Steinbeck. I believe that authors go down in history and are taught in collage classes for a reason. Not to be argumentative, but Stephen King's books have nothing to do with anything. I like a good book that makes me think about the world around me. Steinbeck's "East of Eden" is what I just finished, and I liked it a lot. More of my favorite Steinbeck's include "Cannery Row" and "The Grapes of Wrath."
Also another good author I just finished with is Jeffery Eugenides. "Middlesex" won the pulitzer for 2003, and he also wrote "The Virgin Suicides."
For you guys who give this devotion to Stephen King, I hope you can expand your reading to something that will expand your mind.

It's difficult to pick one favourite author.
Graham Greene's The Power and The Glory
John Steinbeck's The Winter of our Discontent
Alexander Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago
George Orwell's 1984
Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene
Stephen King is good, I liked The Library Policeman, The Langoliers, Roadwork, The Regulators... but he operates in a genre that to me, paradoxically enough, limits the imagination. Try Ray Bradbury.
Have you heard of Stephen King's joint reading with JK Rowling and John Irving, on August 1/2 at Radio City Music Hall, NY? They are calling it An Evening with Harry, Carrie and Garp :). See http://www.radiocity.com/eventcalendar/home

Eye of the Dragon! I liked it up to a certain point, and then I came to the hankies, and I thought: "hey, I've read this already, and I remember that I hated this part!" so I stopped reading it. (You will soon find out)
My favourite author: Robert Louis Stevenson, because of the adventures in tropical locations. The book of his that I like the most, however, is "The Black Arrow", set in jolly old England. It has stuck in my mind throughout the years, I don't know why.
I don't remember the worst book that I ever read. Probably some text book, or some depressing tale that we were forced to read in high school.

Stephen King
is by far the my favorite author I have read everything he has ever written.
It by far is my favorite book he has written. I have enjoyed all of them but the depth of the characters makes this one so much more enjoyable. I love to read and re-read it....especially if I have a cold :)
I own the original copy that was released in 1978 and The Stand: The Complete & Uncut Edition in 1990.

David Eddings. The scope of the man's intelligence blows my mind, and he writes as though that was no big deal. Sometimes you don't even realize what he's done until you've read it a second time.
My favorite books of his are the five book series called "The Belgariad," and the sequel five books called "The Mallorean."
His ability to meld his imagination with his education and knowledge of Earth's social history, is just astounding.
