Are you buying them as a gift for someone, or for yourself? Depending on if you're going to a video store to buy current versions, or if you're going to e-bay to buy 'original' versions, there are actually a few different variants of the original.
When I say original, Episode 4-6 are the originals and you can find them in original, non-edited, form on video cassette (e-bay, video stores don't carry them anymore). In 1997 I believe it was, George Lucas re-released the movies as "Special Editions" with various scenes modified, and/or corrected, per his logic. This version was only available on video cassette. Then in 2003 he released EP. 4-6 on DVD and made some more minor changes from the Special Edition.
Now to throw in a wrench into the mix, if you wait until September, Lucas is going to release the original (non-edited) on DVD.
Anyway, there's plenty of marketing material out there make Lucas a rich rich man for a long long time... and in a galaxy not far away...
