Betty Boop made her first appearance on August 9, 1930 in the cartoon Dizzy Dishes, the sixth installment in Fleischer's Talkartoon series.

Helen Kane, who had inspired the character in 1930, sued the Fleischer studio in 1934 for allegedly stealing her trademark look, dancing and singing style, and catchphrase.

Betty Boop was created by Max Fleischer in 1931.

Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 and didn't become famous till 1953 with "Gentlemen Prefer Blonde's" tho she did have bit parts in some movies as far back as 1947.

Safe to say - Betty Boop was not based upon Marilyn.

No chick. Betty Boop came out way before Marilyn. Sorry. But Betty does seem like she would be Marilyn.

no Betty boop was made in the 1930's; Marilyn Monroe, who became popular during late 50's-early60's, may have emulated some of Betty boop's characterisitcs.

Betty Boop was black and white. Marilyn was technicolor. Marilyn probably stole some of Betty's moves especially the giggle.

ESTHER JONES a black dancer from the Cotton Club back in the late 1920 is the true inspiration for Betty Boop. The singer HELEN KANE saw JONES performance at the Cotton Club in 1928 and stole Ms. Jones' 'baby' Singing Style! for a recording of "I Wanna Be Loved By You." Google Esther Jones and Helen Kane to see who was the real inspiration for Betty Boop!

I am 99.9% certain that Betty Boop pre-dates Marilyn Monroe.

I think she was a cartoon character that a Jewish man drew up and was invented before Marilyn Monroe. So she isn't Marilyn-I guess they're both cute, coquettish women(a flirt, woman who gains attention/affection of men-but women admire her too),but are unrelated,in terms of their creation.Besides BettyBoop has dark hair, and Marilyn never wore skirts that short,or showed that much breast-Betty's even sexier-but neither are bad.
