The pick-up truck was introduced in 1918 by Chevrolet Motor Company; it was that year that Chevrolet became a part of General Motors. It was a 1/2 ton pickup, which only consisted of a chasis and engine...the owner had to provide their own cab and body.

Imagine someone was looking at a horse drawn wagon when the first automobiles were being introduced and they start thinking to themselves, I could put a motor on this wagon to haul my goods to town and I wouldn't need horses to do the work any more.
