I left a plastic bowl on a hot burner and now the plastic is stuck on the burner. How can I get it off. I got the bowl off but now I have lots of plastic melted onto the burner.

warm your burner slowly till it's hot enought to melt the plastic again and scrape it off with a knife or something like that. my mom always does that, too.

You'll need to buy another burner. They come off really easy, j\Just a lift and gentle pull out of its little socket. Take it to an appliance store, or check places that sell appliances like Sears, or Judd & Black, and purchase one. They aren't expensive anymore. Even a cheapie Appliance Repair & 2nd hand store will have parts! They are pretty much universal so trying to get one for your stoves model isn't quite as important, but that is why I suggested you take the "dead" on with you to be sure the prongs are right! Good luck, shouldn't cost you more than $15-$20! A lot less than your pain and agravation yes?

Once the burner is cooled-down the plastic should simply pop off from the burner coil surface. If it rejoined completely around just pry it off carefully with a flat-tip screwdriver.

I did the same thing... It is a b*tch to get off but try this:

Turn the heat on real low and let the plastic get pliable again. Then scrape it off when it is "melted" again. After I scraped off all that I could, I turned the heat up to high and then turned on the exhaust fan and opened all the windows and let the rest burn off. It smells really bad but it worked.

If you have an electric range just make sure you don't electrocute yourself in the process.

what type of burner is it...a glass/ceramic flat top or the metal spiral ones?
If it is a flat top one you can use a sharp window scraper to get the large pieces off, then use a paste of baking soda and water to remove the rest of the stuff.

If it is the metal ones, I would just buy a new one from Lowes or Home Depot. They only cost around 2 or 3 bucks.

Good luck.

do not scrape some thing inspite of you do. you need to scrape the end precise off of the realm. Use warm water and a Scotch-Brite heavy duty scouring pad. you'll get them in any food market. once you're there get some playtex hand saver dish washing gloves because you'll pick to apply warm water to soften up the plastic. The scouring pads received't scratch or harm the teeth on your range proper. i exploit all of them the time on mine. Scrub as not common because it takes to scour the plastic off. counting on how a lot plastic is stuck for your range proper that is going to in undemanding words take a jiffy.
