Here is the question that I asked:

I need to remove addresses from my address bar.?
I have addresses in my address bar and people keep saying the same thing, go to control panel and delete history and clear files etc. I do that but the same addresses are still up there. It will erase all but one address. I dont want to do the autocomplete either. How do I permanently remove them. Please offer some other advice besides the same old adivce. I have also read other peoples questions but nobody is offering anything new. Please help.

People tried to answer but they all gave the same answers, I have not idea why this is such a tough question. How the heck do I erase the address bar. Again, I have already went to tools and did all the obvious steps (erasing history, cookies, files etc.). Is there anyway to remove internet explore from my laptop and then reinstall? I went to control panel and went to try to remove it but it seems it does not give that option. Please Help!

Go to internet options....
Clear history
Delete cookies
Delete files

Just find anything you can to delete and this usually works for me... I don't know why it isn't working for you

First off NO INTERNET EXPLORER cannot be uninstalled, it is built into windows as of WIndows 98.

Autocomplete is what it is causing the addresses to appear as you type. so clear autocomplete.

You have heard all that crap before. I believe that maybe you are misinforming us of where you problem lies. I am not stupid but i might be taking a stupid guess and i think you are actually refering to book marks(favorites) or something else "the same address are still up there."

YOu can manage your bookmarks by clicking FAVORITES and selecting MANAGE FAVORITES Click on all of the ones you don't want and each time click delete. If they jsut come back after you open internet explorer then you are likely infected with a variant of spyware (we'lL come to that later).

If it's not bookmarks then it's Toolbars you are talking about.these are little buttons which sit very close to the Addess Bar, and you can click on them and type stuff in sometimes. IF your toolbars have search field then you should right click on the toolbar and check if there are any options that you can use to clear whats typed there or options to uninstall

For example in Firefox to clear the histroy of the stuff i searched I right click the search toolbar and i select CLEAR SEARCH HISTORY. A search bar is like an adress bar, but not. Internet explorer and Mozilla wont clear these extra toolbars because they are not programmed to. The toolbars should provide these options.

FOR IE goto TOOLS and select MANAGE ADDONS. Uninstall anything there that you don't like. It might also be handy to check whether these toolbars have uninstallers in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel.

Some toolbars/search bars are actually spyware which will make them hard to get rid of. In that case download S&D spybot

http://www.spybot.info/
I hope that is the right link. After downloading, update it and run a scan.

Also get windows Defender if you have a legal version of XP
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

I hope this helps. if it doesn't take screen shots, save as JPG and email them to me jason[at]mrfloppysa.com.

IF the address bar won't clear there might be something wrong with your registry.

I had the same problem. I could never find a good answer. The only thing I did is to wait it out. They will go away if you use the scroll down bar. If you see them come up when you type something like www.y...then those remain. One option is to wait them out and they will go away. Or you can go to another browser, i.e. Netscape. Third, you can always google the site and connect it through there. It will never register as something you type. It works well for work.

Ok I can;t help you with the auto complete thing but if you want to try this please do

Go to tool on the ie page and then click on internet options then click on clear history which should be the third box down that should get rid of the page history for you.
