I got an estimate to cut down 15 pine trees (about 20in. around at the bottom and about 50 ft tall - they're tall and skinny) grind the stumps, and push all to a burn pile for $1,000. Is this a good price or should I look for more estimates? They are located between my 2 neighbors/fences.

Very good price! Go for it, you won't find someone else to do all that work for $1,000. Just be sure you can "burn" when you have the work done or you are going to be up a creek. My father was a tree man and so I know as I used to do his books and work for him every once in a while, (even though I'm a "girl"). Having the trees so close to the fences and all can be really tricky. Make sure he is licensed and carries insurance if anything should happen, because as you know ACCIDENTS CAN HAPPEN! But if you've checked him out, do nothing more but check that you can burn during the season you decide to have the work done. With all sorts of wild fires and dry areas of the nation (I don't know where you live) you might not be able to "burn" and have to pay to haul it away, or you can try and sell it for next winter. You also need to figure what type of pine trees they are. Cedar, Pine, etc. But yes if everything is Ok and he's ligit goi for it, and fast before he raises his price.

Anytime I have an outside contractor do a job that is over $500 -$750 I get two or even three estimates. It is just the smart thing to do.

But to some people time is money and you might just want to get it over and done with.

Have you discussed splitting the cost with your neighbors? Not necessarily 50/50, but maybe they could chip in a little if the trees are on both of your properties. If they are on your property only maybe not. But it is still worth a shot, you can find out if you don't ask.

Its a good price in the midwest, here I had estimates of $300.00 - $450.00 to take down a horse chestnut tree, grind down the stump and haul it away.

I didn't have that kind of money so I kept looking and finally found someone to take it down and grind the stump for $150.00 but he didn't haul it away for that price and he was over 80 years old.

I think if you actually extract your head from your butt you'll find that on a global scale humans cut down far more trees than are replaced by planting. In fact, it has been calculated that on average one and a half acres of forest is lost (and not replaced) every second in the rain forests alone. And all the beavers in the World couldn't manage that.

That is a really good price! You normally would pay that price just to grind that many stumps. So you are getting a good deal. My question would be is this guy bonded (insured)... that's where you could be held liable if he makes a mistake and gets injured or injures someone else, or causes any unintentioned damage. Make sure he's bonded and you should be fine! :)

My husband and I own a landscaping company, we also do tree removal, this is an excellent price. I would suggest, though, you make sure the company is licensed and insured. Also, you may want to check with the BBB to see if the company has any complaints. It's a big job, don't take any unnecessary chances.

I have to say that is a great price. I would go with this estimate. Hope this helps... There is a lot of work involved with this situation.

That's a good price. Ask your your neighbor to help with the cost and both will benefit from the work.

considering that I paid $300 for one pine tree that does not sound unreasonable. But they hauled the wood away.
