I can answer your question in three words: "no", "no", and "no".

The U.S. wasn't making a sincere interest in winning in Vietnam. We fully understand we MUST win in Iraq. If we pull out, no country will ever trust the U.S. to stay the course. They'll figure that, when the going get tough, we'll always cut and run.

If we leave Iraq, the terrorists will be emboldened, and our problems will increase a thousand fold.

Iraq and Vietnam are completely different. Just read anything Ollie North has said on the subject.

Look at the website below. It should give you some confidence about the progress of fixing Iraq.

The US is involved. That is about the only similarity. We did not go into Vietnam because they posed a threat to our country. We we're trying to help stay the spread of communism then; but in Iraq we're there because left alone it would become a training ground for people like those who hit the US on 9/11.

You can find some similarities but if you stick to the facts they are very different in most ways. I think notably decisions were made based on bad intelligence and misinformation that the decision makers had at the time. The US completely misunderstood Vietnam and escalated the war based on an event we now know to be false, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. In the case of Iraq the US totally misunderstood the WMD evidence and miscalculated the threat posed by Saddam and his evil regime.

In both cases the US made intelligence errors and failed to properly understand the enemy.

easily the two wars are a worldwide aside. entire sort of casualties interior the Vietnam conflict reached extra advantageous than 70 thousand American troops at the same time as we at the instant are conversing approximately around 3 thousand American troops killed in Iraq so some distance. the U. S. government has scheduled an end to the militia presence in Iraq at the same time with the residing community government and that's often considered as a sort of victory. although the conflict in Iraq went something yet easily with a great sort of errors and at situations issues regarded irreversibly undesirable, taking a sober look at ingredient now you ought to count huge sort this marketing campaign as a reasonable success. of direction all counting on how issues finally end up yet with the Iraqi government and who they chosen to count huge sort as their acquaintances or foes. yet from a cutting-edge perspective- Saddam Hussein is long gone - there's a parliamentary government in Iraq this is yet to mature yet could become good and open. The sectarian violence is very much decreased and reconstruction is on the right song. I wouldnt say that the destiny seems shiny even yet it deifnitley doesnt look as grim because it did a pair of years in the past. on the different hand Vietnam replace right into a entire failure. The individuals suffered huge losses in workers and treasure and withdrawed and not making use of a single acomplishement to their desire. The north vientamese proceeded to take over the south inflicting terror and mayhem, and Vietnam as an entire joined the Soveit sphere of effect for something of the chilly conflict. 2 very distinctive wars with 2 very distinctive outcomes.

Yeah, people die. It is war. Lets see though, 2500 Americans dead. We lost more than that practically every month of Vietnam. And I know, you think we're losing. That is crap. There is an elected government there. Although the thugs kill people still, their attacks are becoming less and less tactically significant. Infrastructure is improving. More and more Iraqi security forces hit the streets each month. And guess what, a despot isn't there anymore with a 1/2 million man army to threaten 1/3 the world's oil supply (you do like lights, cars, and you computer working, right?), U.S. interests, or American lives (yes, Al-Queda is not the only terrorist group that wants us dead, and Saddam supported terrorists!).

No there is not. Iraq war is fought in a different region with a different race of people. Vietnam had no purpose what so ever. This war is to secure your oil interest so you can drive your SUV's

Having lived through the Vietnam era, and losing friends to that "conflict" I say yes.
The biggest similarity I see is that people in neighboring countries, who may not have anything in common, have a common interest in keeping the U.S. out of their part of the world.
To them we are the bigger threat, and they're willing to put all differences aside to be sure we will leave.
It happened in Cambodia, Laos, and North and South Vietnam and it's here to confront us again.
History tends to repeat itself.

Yes, we are bogged down in the middle of a civil war. There is no end in sight. If we leave now or leave later the Iraqi have the right to choose their own form of government and not a puppet government set up by the U.S. Lets bring our people home now and let them settle their own disputes in their own way.

Yes, the main similarity is the insistence by the media that they're the same and that dolts like yourself believe what you're spoon fed...
