Premature opening of the cervix (also called cervical incompetence) is not caused by having sex, but it does become a reason to stop having sex, since there would be an increased risk of infection. Cervical incompetence is the result of a weakness of the cervix itself. As the pregnancy progresses, more pressure is put on the cervix by the growing uterus. The cervix begins dilating even though there are no contractions. Sometimes, the doctors are able to save the pregnancy through cerclage, which is basically holding the cervix together with some sutures until the baby is developed enough to be delivered. Without this intervention, it is likely that a miscarriage will occur. While this condition is not the result of having sex, it is likely that in future pregnancies your girlfriend will be monitored very closely and may be advised not to have sex at all.

Sex is considered safe during pregnancy no matter how many weeks, months or days you are. It all comes down to the woman's choice in the end. Does she feel like having sex or has she lost the feeling for now? It does no harm to the baby as it protected by it's own little bubble wrap. Have fun and enjoy!

it's safe to have sex throughout your entire pregnancy unless the doctor tells you otherwise.

the cervix is protected by a mucus plug, and plus hormones cause it to open... not sex.

certain conditions can cause the cervix to begin to dialate, and if that happens the doctor will tell you not to have sex... and will probably put you on bed rest or might even stitch the cervix up. or else you'll go into preterm labor/miscarry.

Highly unlikely. Sex is generally safe - if not always comfortable - for a woman right up to the end of pregnancy. Some tests show that the fetus actually enjoys and is relaxed by the rocking motions of sex and orgasm.

If you have questions about this, I suggest reading "What to Expect when you're Expecting" - probably THE most authoratative book on pregnancy that's out there nowadays. I hope your girl is okay!

No it can't...it is totally normal to have sex during pregnancy. The fact that her cervix has begun to open is a medical issue. So don't blame yourself and if it helps...talk to a Dr. about it too. Take care.

Having sex when I was 8 months pregnant sent me into labor. It was really embarassing having to tell my doctor about it. My mucus plug came out right after and I started having contractions in about 2 hours after. My daughter came out just fine and healthy.

If your women was meant to go into labor then it will happen but if God has other plans then it may not. From experience not to worry you but I had sex at 4 months and went inot labor and lost twin boys. So, it all depends on God and what he wants to do. He will not make your baby die but he can make labor start if he choses.

Nope, sex is perfectly safe in pregnancy up until your water breaks; unless your OB/GYN tells you to refrain. In fact sex is good for you in pregnancy because it strengthens your uterine muscles and prepares them for delivery.

No, sex is OK throughout the pregnancy (unless a doctor instructs otherwise).

no ... ob/gyn doctors will tell you that you can have sex (if it's comfortable for the female) right up until and during the ninth month
look on one of the medical sites if it would make you feel better ...
