Which Texas beach???? Which type of tour? I'll go for it!
Galveston: Dirty, tour the Strand, historical houses, not pretty.
Rockport: Rock beaches that aren't really beaches-sits on Inter Coastal Highway, old people, tour birding, ok restaurants, nothing to do or see. BORING!!!
Port Aransas: Most beautiful and perfect weather in Oct. & Nov., very popular and way over crouded year 'round, Dolphin tours, birding tours, UT Marine Science Institute tours, fishing tours (best in Texas), kayaik tours to lighthouse & lunch there, lots of fun things to do, horrible restaurants, terrible shopping. 25 mintues from Corpus Christi (They advertise beaches in CC but, I haven't seen one in 30 years. I don't get that). Great tours, Texas State Aquarium, Surf Meuseum, History Meuseum, Nina-Pinta-Santa Maria tours, USS Lelington tours, lots more. Stay in Port Aransas (Mustang Island) and drive over. Great shopping and wonderful restaurants.
South Padre Island: Beautiful, deep cooler beach water, fantastic restaurants and bars, 30 minutes to shop in Mexico boarder towns, tour light house, fishing is great, ok shopping.
Well, that's about it.

galveston island is great. also, padre island attracts lots of tourist but is quite a bit more pricey$$. galveston island has lots of tourist activities that are very reasonably priced. lots of history on galveston island. if you go, be sure to tour the Bishop's Palace. it's cool.

if you can afford to get to somewhere else, please do. texas beaches are pitiful and not worth going to unless it is your only option. if you want a fun vacation in texas and some sights to see, head to the hill country. you can go to schliterrbahn or go toobing. lots of little towns and also austin that you can explore.

i would go for padre island.... it is not overly crowded only during spring break.
