I worked for a company that employed about 170 people. Technical laboratory personnel,
drivers and many others … but no drug testing why not?

Maybe they don't like the expense, where other companies figure the cost of the testing will pay for itself in the long run.

Employers can ask for employees to take drug test any time they want. Especially if there is a liability issue. You'll never win this battle. Most companies require them up front before they hire you. Then reserve the right to re-test when they want too.

some companies are held more responsile for tghe actions of their employs
(2) when the lives of people are at stake then it is the best interest of all
Who wants to fly in an airplane that some guy high or spaced out on meth and has been up a week ?

your acting like no drug testing is a bad thing man. I thought drug testing employees lowered the companies insurance?

but drug testing I must say is unconstitutional.

It really depends on the companies individual policies. Ususally companies where safety is a concern will always test.

Some do it to comply with their insurance regualations, and others do it only if you have an accident, this gives them leverage to not have to pay for your accident. And still some companies that do not pay very well do not worry about it, they're just happy to get someone to do the work.

Sometimes the company think they're in no liability if they do not test people.

companies that don't test for drugs are more creative and on the cutting edge.

sometime it is simply a company policy!
insurance, federal or state regulations require testing!
