When I went to school, I never worried about being popular. I saw it is being extremely shallow to put people into groups. So never had a group and just floated around all the different groups in the school. You wouldn't believe it, but in a way doing it made me popular and respected by my peers. If there was someone who was getting picked on i was always the one who would stand up for them. So my advice is if she is your friend stick with her and forget what others say....is being popular all that important to you.
Or do you value popularity over this friendship.

Hang around the unpopular kids. You'll learn so much more, and when you don't have to hold up a facade for the world to see, you can show your true colors. Your friend probably wants to be herself, AND be accepted - which is, really, human nature. Just forget about impressing the popular crowd and support her in her quest to find and be herself. She'll thank you for it.

Popularity is a hard thing to deal with, especially when it involves your friends. Think about which group you want to hang out with. The group that is popular or your friend who probably likes you for who you are.

Keep hanging out and sticking up for this friend and soon these
other kids will maybe stop snubbing them. If not ,don't worry because you are better then they are and have a considerate
heart and good head on your shoulders. Its too bad there are not
more kids like you out there instead of all the bullies and cliques.
You should always feel good about yourself for defending another.

Unfourtunatly, unless you are really popular, it is really hard to change thier minds. If you are more popular than them, you might beable to change them with example, but drones only follow the leader unfourtunatly. Whatever to the popular, if you want to be her frined be her friend and try to pull her up!
