why do thay say thei sorry when thay did nothing. example would be me braking my lag and a friend saying the next day "iam sorry you broke your lag"...why would people do that? they have no reasion to be sorry they did nothing wrong? i truely dont under stand this. after 20 years i just dont under stand.

Because it's like saying. "I hate you broke your leg"
They feel for you. They are sorry you broke you leg.
You don't get it?
Maybe we mis-use the word sorry....

Because they say they are feeling sorry for your loss/injury/difficulty or whatever. Why do law enforcement personal say: "I am sorry about your loss." To someone who just lost a loved one? They do it to be polite, and to show that they care. Be happy that your friends/family are sorry you broke your leg (I think you meant leg), how would you feel if they didn't care?

It's an expression of concern over your mishap. Just as they would be happy for you if something good happened. Just accept it as it is meant and don't try to dissect it.

They say it because... what else can they say? I was taught, however, not to say sorry but to just say "That sucks!", but.. yeah. It's a respect thing.. I guess. Because it does suck that that happened to you and .. they are sorry that it hapepned, get it?>
